Unit 2 Evaluation

Unit 2 Evaluation
Creativity
I have tried to be original in my work this unit whilst trying to keep in certain genre conventions. An example of this would be my music video treatment, or my magazine, where I used slightly larger coverline than usual, and put it right in the middle of the page.
Researching and brainstorming helped create my own ideas when designing and planning my work.
I Looked at other work to help plan what I would do when designing a magazine cover, as well as annotating an existing magazine cover to define conventions of a magazine.
Another example would be the TV title sequence we created, where we analyzed some other TV opening sequences before brainstorming and creating our own.
Working accurately
I try to present  my work neatly and make it look good, but I have a tendency  to rush things and can miss some details, usually in written (or typed) work. when I created the magazine cover, I tried to keep everything aligned and make sure the images are not pixelated, and just generally make sure everything looks neat and organised.
In my treatment, I used relevant images that suited the black background of the rest of the treatment, as well as trying to keep the blocks of text at a similar width in all the slides.
When Posting on my blog, I make sure that major posts are well laid - out, and photos/images are a good size that will fit on my blog.
Use of equipment
Before this unit, I hadn’t used final cut, so I had to learn to use it from the ground up when editing the TV opening sequence. I had used photoshop a few times before, but I learned a lot in this unit that I did not know, and I think that my skills in Photoshop Have Improved a lot since the start of the unit.
I hadn’t used a mac much before, but found it relatively easy to use and prefer the OS to windows; it feels faster.

Saving/storing material
I have a tendency to just save things I am working on to my desktop, until it is finished, when I will upload it to my blog. I usually save a document as soon as I have opened it, so I don’t  have to start again from scratch if, say, photoshop crashes. when working on something, i try and remember to save at regular intervals in order to not lose work. one way to do this would be to re- read my work as i go along and check for mistakes.
I prefer to do write-ups such as this on google docs because it saves for you as you type, so even if the internet browser crashes, you don’t lose any work, which is very useful.
Strongest skills
I think I am now quite good at using photoshop now, and can do a lot more than I used to be able to do. I can also use a camera well, because I use my camera a lot at home, (although I do more photography as opposed to the filming we have done this unit.) I also think I am good at analyzing, be it a magazine cover or someone else's work. I think I am also quite good at researching for a piece of work looking at other videos and gathering screenshots that define an artist or a genre of music.
or annotating a magazine cover to get an idea of what to put in my own.
although not something I have used before, blogger is easy enough to use and I think I am quite good at making sure all posts are named, and organised.
Skills that need improvement
I need to put more detail into my written (or typed) work; as i said before, I have a tendency to rush through and can miss out points or not put enough detail into my writing.
I only used Final Cut for a short time and could probably learn a lot more about it as i only used some of the basic features of the programme.
There are plenty of tutorials for using almost all software on the internet, in video, text, and cartoon form which are really useful for learning how to use software, as well as useful tips and shortcuts that people use.

Rap music analysis & screenshots.

Rap music usually contains a live performance by the artists, and if the artist has collaborated with another artist, they will usually be in the video too.  Things that the artists rap about are usually referenced in the video too, and the video usually has multiple references to the title of the video.
rap artists are usually portrayed as being underground or having ties with criminal culture.
common settings of rap video's include nightclubs, random city streets, "the hood",  as well as live performances at arenas.

Gorillaz- video screenshots

Gorillaz use animation in all their music videos. on their first album they used 2D animation, but have used different animation techniques. they usually feature performance from the artists,  and the videos usually have subtle references to the song, and other media texts.
